The Handle

Magnolia (ho wood) is one of the most popular woods used for traditional Japanese wa handles - lightweight, with an extremely low percentage of etheric oils and resins, it leaves almost no smell or taste on the hand. The surface is smooth and comfortable, and the wood will darken naturally with use, developing its own character over time. The octagonal profile sits naturally in the hand and provides excellent rotational control during cutting.
