The Sakai Takayuki Story
Sakai Takayuki is one of Sakai's most respected cutlery houses, with roots going back to 1932 under the Aoki family. Operating from Sakai in Osaka Prefecture - Japan's knife-making capital for over 600 years - the brand is celebrated for its single-bevel Japanese knives. The Funayuki - literally "for going to sea" - is a traditional Japanese utility knife that bridges the gap between a Deba and a general-purpose chef's knife. Lighter and more nimble than a Deba, it handles fish, meat, and vegetables with equal ease, making it one of the most versatile knives in the Japanese kitchen. This 170mm carbon steel example is a practical, everyday workhorse in excellent second-hand condition, and comes in its original box - a rare find for collectors and working cooks alike.
Care & Maintenance
- Hand wash only - never dishwasher
- Dry immediately after washing
- Do not use a honing rod - single-bevel blades require professional sharpening
