This vintage Kumpei deba knife carries the inscription 訓平作 (Kunpei-saku) - "Made by Kunpei" - a signature of the Masutani Hamono workshop in Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture. Echizen has a 700-year tradition of hand-forged cutlery, and the Kunpei line represents its working-class finest: exceptional sharpness, honest steel, and no-nonsense construction.
