Why Magnolia

Magnolia wood has been the traditional handle material for Japanese kitchen knives for centuries. It is a soft, lightweight wood with a smooth surface that is comfortable in the hand and easy to grip even when wet. Its natural oils give it innate antimicrobial properties, and its light weight keeps the balance of the knife forward - where it belongs for Japanese-style cutting. The resin black ferrule prevents the blade from rattling or coming loose over time, and suits both left- and right-handed users. If your existing handle has cracked, loosened, or simply worn out, this is the correct replacement for Tojiro knives.

Care & Maintenance

  • Hand wash only - do not soak or submerge the handle
  • Dry immediately after washing
  • The natural wood will develop character over time with use
  • If the handle feels dry, apply a very light coat of food-safe mineral oil
  • Handle fitting should be performed by a professional knife sharpener if you are not experienced with handle replacement
