About Kyohei Shindo
Kyohei Shindo is a talented young blacksmith based in Tosa, Kochi Prefecture - a region with a centuries-long tradition of blade-making. He's building a cult following for his ultra-thin knife designs that punch well above their price point. The Warikomi construction sandwiches Aogami #2 carbon steel between iron cladding, giving the blade a reactive core that develops a beautiful patina with use while keeping the cladding easy to maintain. The Kurouchi finish is left from the forge - raw, rustic, and full of character. The keyaki handle is made from Japanese elm, one of the most beautiful native hardwoods.
Care and Maintenance
- Hand wash only - never dishwasher
- Dry immediately after use - carbon steel will rust if left wet
- Apply a light coat of food-safe oil if storing long-term
- Hone regularly on a ceramic rod or leather strop
- Sharpen on whetstones (1000/3000 grit recommended)
- Store on a magnetic rack or in a saya (blade guard)
