The Final Step. The Sharpest Edge.

Experience the finishing stone that takes a sharp knife and makes it exceptional. The Kai Seki Magoroku 8000 Grit Whetstone is the last step in a complete sharpening progression - polishing the edge to a mirror-like finish that maximises sharpness, reduces friction, and produces the cleanest possible cuts. Includes the same multifunctional base and storage case as the rest of the Seki Magoroku range.

  • Base: Ribbed non-slip surface keeps stone stable during sharpening, water reservoir keeps stone wet

Where This Stone Fits in Your Sharpening System

The 8000 grit stone is always the last stone in the progression - never the first. Use it after a coarse or medium stone has already restored the edge. At 8000 grit, the stone removes almost no metal - instead it smooths and polishes the microscopic scratches left by coarser stones, refining the edge to a mirror-like finish that is visibly sharper and longer-lasting. For Japanese knives like Shun, which are sharpened to a fine 16° edge, a high-grit finishing stone makes a noticeable difference to both sharpness and edge retention. The included base and case keep the process clean and stable.

How to Use

  • Always use after a coarse or medium stone - not as a standalone sharpening stone
  • Fill the case top with water to the fill line and soak the stone for 5-10 minutes
  • Place the stone in the ribbed base - fill the base reservoir with water to keep the stone wet
  • Use light pressure - the 8000 grit stone does its work gently
  • Sharpen at 16° for Japanese knives, 20° for Western knives
  • Rinse and dry after use, store in the case flat to prevent warping
  • Flatten periodically with a leveling stone
