Where This Stone Fits in Your Sharpening System
The 400 grit stone is the starting point for most sharpening sessions where the edge needs more than honing can provide - small chips, shape correction, or rust removal. Once the edge is restored, move to a medium stone (1000 grit) to refine, then finish with a 6000 or 8000 grit stone to polish to a razor edge. The included base and case make this the most practical entry point into whetstone sharpening - the soaking tray, non-slip base, and water reservoir mean everything you need is in one compact kit.
How to Use
- Fill the case top with water to the fill line and soak the stone for 5-10 minutes
- Place the stone in the ribbed base - fill the base reservoir with water to keep the stone wet
- Sharpen at 16° for Japanese knives, 20° for Western knives
- Keep the stone wet throughout - add water as needed
- Follow with a 1000 grit and finishing stone after use
- Rinse and dry after use, store in the case flat to prevent warping
- Flatten periodically with a leveling stone
